So you want to be an animator? In this two-week summer camp, you will create your very own animated stories using both traditional, hand-drawn animation and cutting-edge computer animation. You’ll use the same tools and techniques that are used in studios such as Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks. In this introductory class, you will be guided through the animation process in a simple, step-by-step, fashion. This course is designed to be an entry-point to animation so no previous experience is necessary – just a passion for the art of animation and a willingness to step into the role of animator.
The focus of the camp will be on the heart of animation - storytelling. For the hand-drawn animation portion of the camp, the drawings will be kept simple so you can concentrate on the principles of animation - no need to worry about your level of draftsmanship. If you can draw a stick figure, you'll be fine. For computer animation, we'll work with a cast of simple, appealing and animation-ready characters to free you up to concentrate on storytelling and learning to use the animation software, Autodesk Maya. By the end of the camp, you will have created several small movies that you can proudly show to your family and friends.
