Financial literacy starts with understanding necessary math concepts. From addition and subtraction to decimals and percents, math is the foundation on which financial literacy starts. On top of that foundation is myriad of concepts and terms: credit, debit, interest, budgeting and more.
To help Tallahassee teens build these skills, Mathnasium of Tallahassee has teamed with First Florida Credit Union for a free financial literacy seminar on Friday, January 24, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
First Florida Credit Union’s Pay Your Own Way is an interactive experience that helps teens understand and the develop the skills necessary to manage their financial world.
During this hands-on event, participants create a real-world simulation, complete with a spouse, career, income, and bills. From there, they will plan and shop, making everyday life decisions about housing, cars, food, child care, clothing, and more.
They will learn the negative consequences of budgeting missteps, while gaining an understanding of the decisions and trade-offs needed to effectively manage their money, creating a financially sound home.
