 ntra dancing and root beer floats to the wide varieties of music of immigra
 nts, the state's cultural heritage reflects the lives of generations of Flo
 rida families and communities.<br /><br />Throughout the Memorial Day weeke
 nd, more than 300 performances will give voice and meaning to Florida's her
 itage.<br /><br />Every year the Florida Department of State's Florida Folk
 life Program researches a special topic on Florida's traditional heritage. 
 The 2025 festival Folklife Area will feature “Air.”   <br /><br />The festi
 val's Folklife Area will feature performances and demonstrations celebratin
 g the diverse living traditions of Florida. Be sure to visit the Folklife A
 rea to experience the compelling traditions and savor the flavors, sights a
 nd sounds of some of Florida's oldest and newest cultural communities.<br /
 ><br />Florida Folk Festival<br />At the Florida Folk Festival you can sit 
 with the masters who keep cultural traditions alive. In jam sessions, demon
 strations and workshops, try your own hand at playing mandolin, telling sto
 ries or making a pine needle basket.<br /><br />Learn how to collect your f
 amily's history or call a square dance, or the importance of native plant a
 nd animal species.<br /><br />Take a shopping excursion and visit with Flor
 ida's traditional and contemporary craftspeople. Then dine on collard green
 s and cornbread, chicken pilau and hoppin' john, shrimp gumbo, barbecue, cu
 rries, gyros and root beer floats.<br /><br />As the sun sets, settle in fo
 r concerts by moonlight or dance the night away at the Heritage Stage. At t
 he end of the day, you'll have discovered new corners of the state from the
  people who call Florida home.
