The Magnolia School is a private, nonprofit K-8 school founded in 1985 on the idea that children have a natural inclination to learn that should be nurtured and allowed to flourish in a safe and caring environment. We are steadfastly committed to: multi-age classrooms (K-2, 3-5, 6-8); 10-1 student-teacher ratio; a small size (intentionally fewer than 60 students in the whole school); integrated, active, and differentiated curriculum; and developmental student evaluations and portfolios.
The Magnolia School’s theme-based learning approach is designed to teach students to make natural connections. Each year, the staff selects different themes (mosaics, Persia, the Industrial Revolution, and energy, for example) and develops a curriculum that integrates the “big ideas” and concepts of language arts, social studies, science, and math. Language arts and math also are taught separately, with lessons reinforced during theme study.
The Magnolia School now includes Treeschool, a creative, play-based preschool offering half-day programs for Tallahassee's young families.
