Take Stock in Children is a scholarship, mentoring and college-readiness program that helps eligible students prepare for and complete postsecondary education.
Students enter the program while in middle or high school and are paired with a volunteer mentor and college success coach. Participants receive academic support, college and career preparation, workshops and other resources throughout middle and high school.
Students and their families sign a participation agreement committing to academic and personal goals. Students are expected to maintain good grades, attendance and behavior, meet regularly with their mentor and coach, participate in required college-readiness activities and remain drug- and crime-free.
Students who successfully complete the program earn a Florida Prepaid College Foundation Project STARS scholarship that can help cover college or approved career-certification expenses.
Eligibility is based in part on household income and other local program requirements. Interested families must apply through their local Take Stock in Children affiliate; acceptance into the program is not guaranteed.
