Leon County Sheriff's Office Teen Driver Challenge

The Leon County Sheriff's Office Teen Driver Challenge is a free defensive-driving program designed to help teen drivers become safer and more confident behind the wheel. Certified driving instructors teach participants how to recognize dangerous situations, reduce distractions, respond to emergencies, and minimize common risks faced by young drivers.

The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on driving exercises. Topics include vehicle dynamics, driver responsibility, drug and alcohol awareness, night driving, aggressive driving, and other factors that affect roadway safety. Driving exercises include emergency braking, evasive maneuvers, cornering, backing, serpentine driving, and other defensive-driving techniques.

Participants must be ages 15-19, have the required Florida driving privileges, have access to a safe vehicle with proof of insurance, and complete the required participation and liability forms. A parent or guardian must also complete required paperwork for minor participants.

The program is offered at no cost, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Check the Leon County Sheriff's Office website for upcoming class dates and registration information.
