Heartwood Suzuki School

Heartwood Suzuki School offers violin and viola lessons for children in the Tallahassee area, rooted in the Suzuki Method and enriched by Montessori principles — an approach that treats music learning the way children learn language: through listening, encouragement, and loving repetition. At the heart of every lesson is Kaleidoscopes for Violin, an innovative framework developed by Elise Winters that unites the Suzuki "mother tongue" approach with rich, integrated musicianship. Students sing all of their songs in "do-re-mi" solfège, building a deep, intuitive musicianship from the inside out.

Dr. Val brings over 28 years of teaching experience and roots deep in Tallahassee's musical community to every student. She believes that dedicated study of the violin allows children to develop strengths of character that benefit them in all areas of life — and she is committed to making that journey a joyful one. Sensitive and adaptable to all learning styles, her studio is proudly neurodiversity-friendly. Her original "String Theory" Music Theory curriculum brings STEAM learning into every lesson, connecting the physics and mathematics of sound directly to the violin, so students don't just play music — they understand it.
