Tallahassee Animal Services Volunteering

Tallahassee Animal Services relies on volunteers to support daily shelter operations and help homeless animals find new homes. Volunteers assist with animal care, enrichment, shelter upkeep, adoption support, special events, community outreach and other important needs.

New volunteers begin as Shelter Support Volunteers, helping with tasks such as kennel cleaning, feeding animals, enrichment, laundry, dishes and general shelter upkeep. After completing required service and additional training, eligible volunteers may progress to roles involving dog walking and socialization, cat enrichment, adoption assistance, animal photography, playgroups and other specialized opportunities.

Additional opportunities include special events and the Vet Team Volunteer Program for individuals interested in veterinary medicine and animal welfare.

General volunteers must be at least 16 years old, commit to at least 8 hours of service per month for a minimum of three consecutive months, complete the application and interview process, and attend volunteer orientation. A $15 supply and materials fee is due upon acceptance to cover the volunteer uniform.
