Kendo, or “way of the sword”, is the martial art of Japanese fencing. Kendo is a physically and mentally challenging activity that combines traditional martial arts values with sport-like physical elements. Practitioners of Kendo wear traditionally styled clothing, protective armor (bogu), and use a bamboo sword (shinai). Around eight million people world-wide practice kendo with approximately seven million in in Japan. Kendo puts strong emphasis on character building, manners, respect, and self confidence.
