Join us Friday, July 10th for a fun community contra dance! Gainesville’s amazing Angela DeCarlis will be calling the dances, and In Cahoots is conspiring to play us some sensational old-time tunes.
Tallahassee community contra dances are in full swing the 2nd and 4th Fridays of most months! Contra dancing is an upbeat, beginner-friendly American social dance for all ages. It shares many moves with square dancing (such as swing your partner and do-si-do) and is danced in long lines to live music. Bands and instructors (“callers”) vary each night. No dance experience is needed and you don’t need to bring a partner. Arrive in time for the Beginner Lesson at 7:15, and by the end of the night, you’ll have danced with everyone in the room! There’s a short break mid-way through the night for sharing snacks and socializing. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
Admission cost: $10 for Adults, $9 Seniors over 50, $6 for Students, Free for Kids under 12. Admission is payable by cash, check, or card at the door. First-timers get in to your 2nd dance free!
